He confessed, was convicted and sentenced to death for killing Brenda Lane. She was 28 years old, well-liked in her community and she had been married just a few months. Brenda Lane was a newlywed on the cusp of motherhood when she encountered Greg Thompson at a Shelbyville Wal-Mart. The facts of what happened on New Year's Day in 1985 have never been in dispute. Thompson and his girlfriend, a juvenile, wanted to get from Tennessee to Georgia, so they kidnapped Brenda Lane, stole her car and then drove around for an hour and a half on remote country roads, as Thompson searched for a place to kill her. They stopped along a rural country road near a field. Schizo Negro raped blonde woman patient in hospital bed FORT WORTH A woman assaulted inside a North Texas hospital says there wasn't enough done to protect her from a dangerous patient. Now, she's suing Huguley Memorial Medical Center. The action is the second such case and lawsuit against the health care facility. In a 2003 case, a male nurse raped an elderly stroke patient. The current case happened in a mental health ward of the hospital. The attack happened because hospital workers put a man, with a history of behavior and mental health problems, in a room next to a heavily sedated woman. "He entered her room wearing nothing but a t-shirt." Evidence shows Perry Brown carefully arranged his bed making it look like he was asleep. Then, he snuck into the blonde haired woman's room next door. Brown was a 60-year-old schizophrenic who had been psychotic in the past. He was also a drug abuser and a convicted felon. Black Suspect in Murder of 71-year-old White Man at Farmer's Market Arrested  Within 30 minutes of surveillance video airing on television newscasts, Baton Rouge police say they got the tips they needed to make an arrest in the murder of an elderly security guard. The murder happened at Pete's Farmer's Market. Derrick Williams, 25, was charged with First Degree Murder and Armed Robbery. "He is done, no more," said the Baton Rouge Police Chief. The grainy surveillance video released by police shows a gunman arguing with 71-year-old security guard Alfred Mequet. The gunman demands money and attempts to open two cash registers. The Game Stop on Cobb Parkway is still closed and flowers are gathering in front of the entrance in memory of store manager Matthew Cherry. Marietta police called Cherry's father with the news that they made an arrests, and police said his father broke down crying. Black admits to murder of White woman in church   N.C. -- The man arrested for stabbing two Meals on Wheels workers at a Rocky Mount church, leaving one dead and the other hospitalized, has confessed to the crime. Rocky Mount police said Tommy Lee Holiday, 30, admitted to authorities that he stabbed Debbie Kornegay and Eve Beasley. Kornegay, 58, died in the attack, while Beasley was taken to Nash Hospital first and then transferred to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville. She is in critical condition. Kornegay and Beasley were preparing meals at Lakeside Baptist Church on Oct. 18 when witnesses say Holiday tried to rob them. Rocky Mount Meals on Wheels Director Debbie Kornegay and Assistant Director Eve Beasley were preparing meals and loading their vehicles shortly after 9 a.m. A man charged at them in the church kitchen and stabbed them multiple times, Rocky Mount Police Capt. Martin McCoy said. Investigators believe someone let the man inside the church. Police are looking for a black man with a medium complexion and medium-length mustache in his late 20s to early 30s, who they believe has tattoos on both forearms up to his elbows. Police searching for black gunman that shot the white son of a city official - leaving him paralyzed  Police announced today that they have identified the gunman who shot Daren Dieter in East Oak Lane last month and left him paralyzed from the neck down. Now they need help finding the fugitive. Authorities released a picture of Tyree Bohannon, 21, and charged him with attempted murder, aggravated assault, firearm violations and related offenses. Bohannon is considered dangerous. Authorities ask that anyone with information about his whereabouts call 911 or 215-685-2838. Bohannon is accused of firing two bullets into Dieter, 24, at point-blank range in the parking lot of Shrimpie's Bar. Robin Hoynes' three sisters and mother clutched their hands together, and someone whispered, "Yes," as a court clerk announced that William Marshall was guilty. Marshall showed no reaction to the verdict. He returns to court Oct. 26 for sentencing to a mandatory term of life in prison without the possibility of parole. The jury deliberated for about a day before finding Marshall guilty of first-degree murder, a special circumstance of killing during an attempted robbery and using a deadly weapon. After a search, the Moore County Sheriff's Office took Michael Graham Currie, 18, into custody Monday night. Twelve-year-old Emily Elizabeth Haddock was shot to death Friday in her home on Marks Road outside of Vass, authorities said. The girl had stayed home from school with strep throat and was alone. Dark Demon Sex Offender Charged With Kidnap-Rape-Kill of White 11-year-old Jacksonville Girl In 1996  Fla. -- A Connecticut sex offender will be returned to Florida to face a murder charge after being linked to the decade-old rape and drowning of an 11-year-old girl through a database of DNA from convicted sex offenders. Robert Shelton Mitchell, 43, was being held on a $5 million bond after being arraigned as a fugitive. He will face first-degree murder and capital sexual battery charges in the death of Cherie Morrisette of Jacksonville. The Mandarin Middle School student body was found on Dec. 8, 1996, floating in the St. John's River about 10 miles south of the apartment she shared with her mother and sister. An autopsy determined that Cherie drowned shortly after her disappearance on Dec. 2, 1996, and was alive when she either fell into the river or was thrown in. Police labeled the death suspicious, and authorities found a small DNA sample on her underwear and body. Mitchell lived in nearby Middleburg at the time of the girl's death, police said Thursday. Mitchell later moved to Connecticut and was convicted in January 2003 of illegal sexual contact with another child.
