Hoover PD charges 2 more (Negroes) in Gilotti murder case of murder of (White) Iraq war veteran Mike Gilotti     HOOVER, AL - The number of people charged in the Jan. 5 murder of Iraq war veteran Mike Gilotti rose to four on Friday. Gilotti, a married father of two, died after being shot in front of his Hoover home while he was on his way to go work out at the gym. The Jefferson County District Attorney's Office issued warrants Friday morning charging 19-year-old De’Ron Keith Lucas, of McCalla, and and 16-year-old Darrian D. Bryant with murder. "Lucas and Bryant were two of several suspect names that emerged very early in this investigation. Detectives have been determined from the beginning to hold every suspect accountable who was present when this terrible crime was committed. Those same detectives have worked tirelessly since Jan. 5 and we believe today represents the end of the first chapter in this case," Hoover police said in a press release. Bryant will be charged as an adult. The U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested him on Thursday after a brief foot chase in the 800 block of 12th Avenue in Midfield. Marshals brought him to the Hoover City Jail and then moved him to a juvenile facility in Tuscaloosa. Hoover police anticipate Bryant will be transferred to Jefferson County later on Friday to be held as an adult on the murder charge. - (Black-on-white) |

DeSoto police arrest (black) murder suspect in shooting (of White man) behind Dallas home  Authorities have arrested a suspect in the fatal shooting of another man at a Dallas home. James Hightower, 36, is charged with murder in the death of 27-year-old Joshua Harewood, who was slain early Wednesday behind a home on Lewiston Avenue. DeSoto officers arrested Hightower after they were tipped off by an “observant citizen” who recognized him from media reports saying he was a wanted man, police said. Hightower was jailed early Saturday and is being held on $200,000 bail. Police were called to the 2700 block of Lewiston around 2:30 Wednesday morning. Neighbors tried to perform CPR during the 911 call, but Harewood died at the scene. Witnesses told investigators that Hightower lived in a trailer in the backyard of the home and a woman who visited frequently was also there at the time of the shooting. One witness said he heard Hightower yelling “Why did you do me like that” before several gunshots rang out. Another witness said he heard the woman yelling at Hightower during and after the shooting. “Why did you do that?” she asked. “You didn’t have to do that.” The woman later told police that Harewood and Hightower were “hanging out” when Hightower became upset for no particular reason, pulled out a gun and shot Harewood several times. Police arrest (black) woman in connection with fatal hit-and-run  GILBERT, Ariz. - Police have arrested a pregnant woman in connection to the fatal hit-and-run of a bicyclist on Monday night. Gilbert police have arrested 22-year-old Yongela Nelvik Ward after receiving a tip from a neighbor about a damaged vehicle matching the one in the hit-and-run. After serving a search warrant, police found Ward's vehicle inside her garage. On Monday, 28-year-old Erik Alsaker was killed after he was hit by a vehicle while riding his bicycle near the intersection of Ranch House Parkway and Queen Creek Road. Ward has been charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident, which is a Class 3 felony. She was not booked into jail due to her pregnancy. - (Black-on-white) |

Police charge (black live-in boyfriend) in connection with south Jefferson County fatal shooting (of white girlfriend)  LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Louisville Metro Police Homicide detectives have charged Stuart Cox with one count of murder in connection with Friday's homicide on Altsheler Place. Cox is the boyfriend of the victim, Tracey Brock, 20, who was shot and killed around 8:30 a.m. Friday. Both Cox and Brock resided at the residence where the shooting occurred. Cox was transported to Louisville Metro Corrections Friday evening. We're told Brock has a 3-year-old daughter and several siblings, including a twin sister. Friends and neighbors say that Brock was staying at the home with her boyfriend, Stuart Cox, and his grandparents. Cox is now in police custody, after a high-speed chase through four counties until he lost control at the 40 mile marker near Bowling Green.

(Black) Iowa man charged in 1985 shooting death of wife’s (White) lover  An Iowa man who had long been suspected in the 1985 slaying of his wife’s lover was charged with first-degree murder Thursday after investigators took a fresh look at the case. Anthony W. Burtch, 57, was arrested without incident Tuesday morning at his home and charged with first-degree murder in the death of Lance Lee DeWoody, according to information provided Thursday in a joint news conference with the Johnson County Attorney’s Office, the Coralville Police Department and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. DeWoody, of North Liberty, was shot in the head and neck at a picnic shelter on the north side of the Oakdale campus on Aug. 12, 1985, or Aug. 13. Campus employees found DeWoody’s body shortly after sunrise Aug. 13, 1985, near the campus’ general hospital parking lot. His pickup was found parked about 70 yards away. Over the course of the investigation into DeWoody’s death, officials determined that DeWoody had been dating Burtch’s now ex-wife, and the pair had spent the evening of Aug. 12, 1985 together. Shortly after Burtch's wife returned home to Burtch that night, officials said he went out for about 90 minutes. It's during this time that officials say he killed DeWoody. - (Black-on-white) |
Missing (mixed-race) baby found, (black) father sought after (Caucasian) Skokie mother killed   SKOKIE, Ill. -- The 10-month-old son of a 31-year-old woman found dead in her apartment in Skokie has been found safe, police say. Police say they responded to a request for a well-being check on Catherine Benyamin from a family member around 10:24 a.m. Thursday and found her dead in her apartment in the 8200-block of Keating. Her death is currently under investigation and pending results from the Cook County Medical Examiner's office, but police say it is believed to be a homicide. Police say her son Joshua was dropped off at a Chicago church near Halsted and Roosevelt. He was taken to UIC Medical Center for routine observation. Police are still looking for Joshua's father, Jermaine Powell, and believe a person matching his denoscription may have dropped Joshua off at the Chicago church. - (Black-on-white) |

(Black boyfriend) Suspect in double homicide (of white woman and her 4-year-old mixed-race daughter) arrested in Arkansas  Milwaukee police on Thursday announced an arrest in the killing of a mother and her daughter, found dead last weekend in a house fire that investigators suspect was set intentionally. The suspect, identified only as a 31-year-old Milwaukee man, was arrested in Arkansas earlier this week, police said in a news release. They didn't elaborate other than to say that prosecutors are reviewing the case. On Monday, Milwaukee police identified 4-year-old Madyson Marie Marshel and Jessica Marie Ellenberger, 28, as the daughter and mother found dead in the fire set Saturday at their home in the 100 block of N. 68th St. Milwaukee police have not disclosed how Mady and her mother died. - (Black-on-white) |

(Black Muslim) Radical Islamist charged with shooting two NYPD cops     A Brooklyn man accused of shooting and wounding two cops in the name of radical Islam was indicted Thursday for first degree attempted murder of a police officer, attempted aggravated murder, and a slew of other charges. Frederick “Jamaal” Funes, 34, faces 50 years to life in prison after opening fire on officers Andrew Yurkiw and William Reddin during an early morning pursuit on Feb. 20, after they responded to reports of shots fired around Bed-Stuy and Bushwick. When the officers arrived around 3:20 a.m., Funes was driving recklessly — at one point speeding the wrong way down a one way seat. As he sped away, Funes pointed a silver gun at various people he passed — including two uniformed officers and an MTA worker. He eventually t-boned into a marked police car, and then opened fire on surrounding officers, who shot back. He became radicalized during a stint in an out-of-state prison. - (Black-on-white) |

(White) Pastor tracks down (black) suspected church robber  After the offering tray at his Stockton church was robbed Sunday, the pastor took matters into his own hands to track down the alleged thief. The theft happened around 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church at East Vine and North Center streets, according to Stockton police. When the suspect entered the church, he began taking money from the tray. Church volunteers noticed what the suspect was doing and tried to intervene. However, the man pushed one of the volunteers out of his way and made a dash for the door, police said. Following Sunday service, Pastor Gus Wright learned of the theft and decided to go to work, police said. Based on the volunteer’s denoscription, Wright managed to locate the reported suspect, later identified as Tracy Johnson, 50. (Pointy-headed black) Man convicted of 1977 murder (of White man) given new sentence  OMAHA, Neb. - A man sentenced to life in prison for murder was given a new sentence on Monday. Fifty-three-year-old Kelvin Anderson was only 15-years-old when he shot and killed Robert McGinnis during a robbery in 1977. On Monday, Anderson was resentenced to 82-100 years and will be eligible for parole in three years. He will be eligible for release in 11-12 years. Anderson had hope after serving 38 years of his life sentence. His attorney argued that Anderson had not intended to use the gun with McGinnis was murdered. He took a guilty plea to save his older brother from a life in prison or the electric chair. Attorneys argued that Anderson was mentally low-functioning. The prosecution argued that he had been involved in other criminal activity and, at the time of the homicide, he had escaped from the Iowa juvenile system. Prosecutors also argued that Anderson knew they were going to commit a robbery and that he took the gun. District Judge Mark Ashford said this case was "a robbery and an assassination" before resentencing Anderson to 82-100 years. Family members of the man killed said otherwise. Charles McGinnis, the brother of the homicide victim, said, "They should have left it as it stands. It was a murder assassination robbery." Anderson headed back to prison after the resentencing on Monday, but the victim's family could go through these painful memories again in three years when Anderson is up for parole. A 2013 U.S Supreme Court decision mandated it's unconstitutional for juveniles to receive mandatory life sentences without parole. - (Black-on-white) |
(Black) Man gets life sentence in West Rogers Park double murder (of a White man and a Chinese woman)  A man convicted of stabbing to death his two West Rogers Park roommates, later lit their apartment on fire and flew to Las Vegas, where he used their credit cards, has been sentenced to natural life in prison, according to prosecutors and court records. DeJuan Pratt, 27, was sentenced to natural life plus 30 years Tuesday by Judge Charles Burns after being found guilty of murder, armed robbery and arson in December in the Aug. 28, 2012, killings of Gary Brown, 64, and Chun Xiao Lee, 48, according to court records. Pratt, formerly of Ohio, had answered a Craigslist ad, and five days before the murders had moved into the third-floor apartment Brown and Lee shared in the 6400 block of North Sacramento Avenue, prosecutors have said. Emergency crews were called to the apartment about 3:45 p.m. that day following reports of a fire. The two roommates were found lying next to each other on a bed, wrapped in blankets. His brother says this all started over a minor car accident, while Kevin was delivering groceries on Sunday for Fresh Direct. (Black) Man says he slashed woman because she’s white * Man who slashed woman because she’s white charged with hate crime  A man who was arrested for randomly slashing a woman’s neck earlier this month in Brooklyn told police he attacked her because she is white, police sources said. Gregory Alfred, 25, told police he set out to find white people to slice back on Mar. 10 because he blamed them and “the system” for preventing him from freely smoking weed, sources said. The slasher chose to take out his anger on 53-year-old Janina Popko, and cut her across the neck as she was walking that morning in Ditmas Park. “He’s just a sick person,” Popko said. “I’m very lucky to be okay. I am still shaky.” “I never was racial. I grew up in Poland , they never teach us to be racial,” she added. “I didn’t grow up with this racial thing.” Alfred discarded a large kitchen knife, black plastic bag and an American flag bandanna after the attack. Cops were able to lift fingerprints from the items, the sources said. “He had bought paring knives and kitchen knives and said he was going to stab people,” NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said at a Tuesday press conference at police headquarters. “Clearly he is a disturbed man and should never have been out in the street.” - (Black-on-white) |

(Black) Man, Woman Charged in Shooting Death of (White) Convicted Killer   Authorities have made two arrests in the shooting death of a New Jersey man who had a history of crime and drug problems. Mercer County prosecutors say Marcus Muse, of Willingboro, and Tatiana Cole, of Pemberton, each face charges of murder, felony murder, robbery and two weapons counts in the death of 53-year-old Michael DiMattia. They were captured Monday at a Mount Laurel hotel. DiMattia was found Thursday in his Hamilton apartment with two gunshot wounds. Authorities say Muse and Cole stole more than $18,000 from the residence. Authorities say DiMattia was a sports star in high school but his later life was plagued by drugs and crime. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the shooting death of a drug dealer in 1990 and weapons and drug charges in later years. - (Black-on-white) |

(Black) Man arrested in Fort Worth traffic death (of White woman)  FORT WORTH A 30-year-old man was in custody Monday, accused in a weekend crash that killed a Fort Worth mother. Police identified the suspect as Jwuan Johnson, 30, of Fort Worth. He was arrested shortly after the wreck Saturday night. Amy Garner, 44, of Fort Worth, was pronounced dead at the scene, the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office reported. Four other people were injured, but their conditions were not available on Monday. Patrol officers responded to the wreck about 8 p.m. Saturday at Interstate 30 and Beach Street. Phillip Frank Panzica III was arrested last month after he had sex with a New York woman aboard Las Vegas’ High Roller, billed as one of the world’s tallest Ferris wheels. He made headlines and even talked to reporters about the incident, which he said he regretted. Bryant Christopher Watts, 29, and Aaron Jones, 31, face capital murder charges in the 27-year-old man’s death. The two are accused of carjacking Panzica early Saturday as he drove home with his fiancee from the southeast Houston strip club where she works. It is unclear whether Panzica knew the two men. “You need to come clean,” Watts is accused of saying before he shot Panzica several times while his fiancee sat in the passenger’s seat. Mom of (schizo colered half-breed homeless panhandler) accused in judge attack 'living with a broken heart'   CENTER CITY -- The mother of the man who is accused of attacking a Pennsylvania Supreme Court justice near Philadelphia City Hall talked about the struggles she's had with her son. James Paulk, 26, allegedly struck Judge Kevin Dougherty in the face after asking him for money on Friday night. Paulk was arrested a short time later aboard a SEPTA train. His mother, Delores, opened up about her son's struggles with schizophrenia that, she says, left him homeless and may be to blame for the attack. "I'm sorry it happened. I've prayed for the judge, but it may be James' cry for help, knowing he is going to get locked up," Delores said. His diagnosis at 19 changed everything. Delores says she's committed him numerous times, but he quickly checks himself out. "We tried to help but he wouldn't follow through with outpatient care, follow through with medications." Living on the streets since October, James doesn't recognize his illness, according to his mother, who plans to ask the judge hearing his case to order the mental health help. Victims Identified In Bergenfield Murder Suicide - Black male 'domestic partner' and white (Hispanic?) female  The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office has released the names of the deceased in yesterday’s homicide in Bergenfield. Police discovered the body of 36-year-old Annette Torres in the upstairs bedroom of 268 W. Clinton Ave. The body of a 44-year-old Mark Morris was found in the basement utility room. Morris apparently died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Police received a 911 call from a local resident at 10:21am saying that the 11-year-old boy who lives at the Clinton Avenue home had reported that his parents were not breathing.   A Florida man accused of shooting a bystander while firing at his girlfriend told deputies he offered the victim $400 and a cup of water but did not call 911 or help stop the bleeding. Jakell Ward, 21, and his girlfriend were arguing inside his apartment on Friday before she went to leave, after he allegedly threatened to kill her, when he fired at her multiple times, deputies said. The bullets missed his pregnant girlfriend, who was not injured, and one instead went through her car and struck bystander Brian Mortensen in the chest. At the time, Mortensen was installing a fence at a school near Ward's apartment complex, Magnolia Court Condominiums. Mortensen, whose lung reportedly collapsed and who had a bullet lodged near his heart, was transported to Florida Hospital in grave condition. Orange County Sheriff's Office Deputies said in a report that Ward told them he tried to offer Mortensen $400 as 'compensation for the injuries.' Mortensen's wife had a baby just four days ago. (Black) Woman steals $12k mink coat from Houston store  HOUSTON - Authorities are looking for a woman who stole a $12,000 full-length mink coat from a high-end consignment store on Thursday. The woman apparently stuffed the coat under her dress before walking out of the store. Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect. She was caught on camera inside Designer Diva Resale on Westheimer road. Police say after she stuffed the coat under her dress, she took off in a white older model Chevy pickup. “I never would have thought somebody could stick an entire, full-length mahogany mink coat underneath their dress,” said store owner Michelle Puckett.
Puckett repaid the consigner for the $12,000 coat and she says that was a huge hit for her small business. She hopes someone will recognize the woman, turn her in, and claim the five thousand dollar reward from Crime Stoppers. The number to call is 713-222-TIPS. Police said a K-9 picked up on Mark Stewart's scent at an apartment complex near NW 19th and Meridian. Bad witness information sent police looking for the wrong man for several hours Thursday night. They found his victim safe, nearly 12 hours after her kidnapping. “It's a domestic kidnapping is what it is. She's apparently been in a relationship with a guy,” said MSgt. Gary Knight. Witnesses told investigators they saw a man force his way into Tyler 'Timy' Marie Edens home Thursday afternoon. Footage from a neighbor's camera across the street showed a man "using his shoulder to break into the house". (White) South Carolina police officer shot dead by (black) gang member was a father of two with a pregnant wife  A South Carolina police officer was killed trying to arrest a known gang member, who later took his own life to avoid arrest. Officer Allen Lee Jacobs was fatally shot when Greenville cops tried to arrest the suspect at a house in the Nicholtown Community on Friday afternoon. “We lose, we hurt, we ache,” Greenville Police Chief Ken Miller told Greenville Online. “No one wants to lose their officers.” The Greenville officers had been trying to speak with the suspect, 17-year-old Deontea Perry Marckey, when the suspect fled. Lee, 28, rounded a corner and was hit by multiple gunshots and passed away at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Lee never had a chance to unholster his gun and was wearing a bulletproof vest, Greenville Online reported. The officer is a decorated Iraq war veteran, a father of two and his wife is pregnant, with the third child due in July, the department said in a somber remembrance. He'd been with the department for nearly four years. The judge, Richard Warren Roberts, was a lawyer at the time. The alleged victim, Terry Elrod Mitchell, was the key witnesses in the murder trial of a serial killer Roberts was prosecuting. “This has been more difficult than anybody can imagine for Terry Mitchell,” said Mitchell’s attorney, Rocky Anderson. In 1980, Mitchell saw two black friends get shot and killed at Liberty Park. Joseph Paul Franklin was charged with the murders. During that time, Roberts, who was 27, was the federal prosecutor in the case, while Mitchell, who was 16, was the key witness. "Mr. Roberts did indeed engage in sexual relations with Ms. Jackson-Mitchell on multiple occasions under the guise of 'witness preparation.'" “Confused, vulnerable, frightened, and then she is forced into sex,” Anderson added. “And he tells her that you can’t tell anybody because if you do, there will be a mistrial and Joseph Paul Franklin will walk free. She knows he’ll kill again.” So for more than three decades, Mitchell kept silent. Then in 2013, Franklin was executed. Amarillo police rule suspicious deaths a murder-suicide  Investigators said that a pair of suspicious deaths in late January was the result of a murder-suicide. Tyrone Titus, 45, and Dana Atkins, 42, were found dead the morning of Jan. 28 inside a home in the 3100 block of South Harrison Street. Final autopsy results show Atkins died of asphyxia due to chest compression and ligature strangulation. Results also show that Titus died as a result of acute ethylene glycol intoxication. Ethylene glycol is commonly known as antifreeze. “Basically, he drank antifreeze,” Potter-Randall Special Crimes Unit Coordinator Lt. Erick Bohannon said. (Black African immigrant) Driver Charged After (White) State Trooper Dies In Charlton Crash On Mass Pike  CHARLTON — A 30-year-old (black African immigrant) Webster man has been charged following a crash on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Charlton on Wednesday afternoon that claimed the life of a State Trooper. David Njuguna was served with a summons charging him with negligent operation of a motor vehicle and failure to stay within marked lanes. His right to operate a motor vehicle has been revoked due to an immediate threat notification filed by State Police to the RMV, investigators say. Njuguna told his family he blacked out when he crashed into Massachusetts State Trooper Thomas Clardy‘s cruiser, killing him. The 44-year-old trooper was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and had joined State Police in April 2005. (Black man) admits to murder of (White) Portland woman in 1988 cold case   PORTLAND, OR - The suspect in a 1988 cold case murder is finally admitting that he killed a young Portland woman. In court on Tuesday, 60-year-old Walter Wayne Howard faced a judge in shackles to enter a plea in the case of Renee Harvey’s murder. 25-year-old Harvey was a singer and actress living in Southeast Portland and Howard was her upstairs neighbor. Just a few days before her murder, detectives say someone broke into her home and she believed it was Howard. Because of that, she was in the process of moving out and that’s when she was killed. Two years ago, detectives with the Portland Police Cold Case Unit submitted old blood evidence for new testing and lab experts found a DNA match to Howard. He was a registered sex offender living in San Diego. Detective Meredith Hopper arrested him and says he seemed shocked that he got caught so many years later. Hopper says today is a very good day for Renee Harvey’s friends and family. “I’ve spoken quite a bit to the family over the last few days and I know for them, it’s a good feeling to finally have this person take responsibility on some level and have this be over for them.” Howard will be sentenced on March 30 and he will likely spend 11 years in prison. - (Black-on-white) |

James Poore was found guilty Monday in the fatal shootings of four women in a south Tulsa apartment more than three years ago. Prosecutors maintain that James Poore, 35, and his 42-year-old brother, Cedric Poore, were robbing the women in 23-year-old Rebeika Powell’s apartment when they killed her and her twin sister, Kayetie Powell Melchor, as well as Misty Nunley, 33, and Julie Jackson, 55. Nunley and Powell Melchor were staying with Powell at the time, and Jackson was a next-door neighbor, witnesses have said. Hailey Hall was taken to Mercy Health West Hospital on Feb. 29, and a felonious assault was reported. She was later transferred to University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Investigators later discovered the assault had taken place at the Inner Circle nightclub around 2 a.m. The St. Bernard-Elmwood Place High School 10th grader died Monday from her injuries, police said. William Lamar Arnold, 34, was arrested and charged with felonious assault on March 1 in connection with the incident. After more investigation, he may face additional charges due to the death. (Black) Mobile man NOT sentenced to prison in racially charged case of black pack assault on White man  Terry Rawls, 48, of Mobile, was able to go back home today after receiving a sentence in a 2012 assault case, but he isn't quite a free man. A judge handed Rawls a sentence of fifteen years in prison, but those years will be split between two correctional programs. For three years, Rawls will have to comply with Front-End Diversion, an alternative sentencing plan that Rawls' attorney Dennis Knizley describes as "like probation, but more intensive." Rawls was charged with assaulting Matthew Owens, a white man who was in a racially charged confrontation with several black youths. According to court testimony, Owens threatened the group of juveniles with kitchen knives. Rawls, who lives in the neighborhood, intervened in the altercation, beating Owens with a baseball bat. Rawls pleaded guilty to the assault in court on Thursday. The woman has lived in her home in the neighborhood near McLean Boulevard and Jackson Avenue for decades, but this is the first time she said she has been the victim of a crime. "1954, in this house," she said. After all of these years living in her home on Mignon Avenue, she said she will not be pushed out of it by being the victim of crime. "It's a nice neighborhood. That's why I like it here and want to stay here," she said. The woman said her children wanted her to move since she has been robbed, but she said she is staying in her home. Police said the suspect snatched her purse, injured her wrist, and pepper sprayed her. "Sprayed, yeah, that stuff they do in your face," she said. The woman said she believed the person responsible thought she was an easy target. "Probably so, and I was probably just out there and they came by and saw me. That's all I know," she said. The suspected crook was caught on camera outside a convenience store. Police released several photos of him in hopes of making an arrest. They said he is known to panhandle in the same neighborhood where he is accused of pepper-spraying the 91-year-old. Heriance A. Turman of the 6900 block of South Racine Avenue was charged Tuesday with attempted first-degree murder after he “surrendered himself into police custody” at 1:30 p.m. Monday, police said. Paramedics responded about 1:10 a.m. to the city-owned auto pound in the 10300 block of South Doty, Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford said. The victim was a 22-year-old off-duty officer from Indiana University Northwest in Gary, who was working security at the yard, authorities said. Police said he may have interrupted Turman trying to break into a vehicle and, upon discovery, the suspect produced a “cutting instrument” and stabbed the officer. Keon Bailey, 20, of Lancaster, was identified as the man fatally shot by the owner of Leilani Jewelers in Torrance during an attempted robbery Tuesday. San Bernardino County authorities say Bailey was found to be in possession of property stolen from 95-year-old Louis Giuntini, and his wife, 92-year-old Rose Giuntini, who were found dead in their Apple Valley home on March 1. Detectives say evidence from the Giuntini home was also linked to two more robberies in the Apple Valley area. After reviewing surveillance video recovered from one of those robberies, a doughnut shop, detectives identified Bailey as the suspect in all three Apple Valley crimes. Bailey was released from the California Institution for Men in Chino on Feb. 18. He had been incarcerated since May 2014 for first-degree burglary and receiving stolen property, and was placed on three years of parole upon his release. Prison guards found Stewart during rounds and administered first aid, said the prison. Stewart was pronounced dead about 45 minutes after the guards found him. Surveillance video shows the suspect did not wait for Unton to open the cash register before shooting him twice in the chest and running away. Kiara Elijahjuan Taylor, 26, was arrested Tuesday and charged with capital murder. Taylor is accused of killing 19-year-old Peter Mielke. "There was relief there, it was a little bit of a burden lifted off my shoulders," said Dana Mielke, Peter's mother who spoke to us on the phone from Florida. It's the news this mother was waiting to hear. "I did not want this man to be free who let my son die on the floor of a pizza place," Dana Mielke said. Police say Mielke was shot multiple times by a robber, who barged into the Reginelli's Pizzera around 9:30 p.m. on February 21. Turns out, it was Taylor's sister who told KHOU she turned him in after recognizing her brother in surveillance video. "It was the right thing to do... It was the right thing to do," said Tarrell Taylor, Kiara's older sister. She says she bought him the gun from a pawn shop. "He just said he wanted a gun," she said. "That wasn't my intention... for him to buy it just to protect him." However, three days after walking out of prison, investigators say Taylor turned a gun on Mielke, an innocent teen who wasn't able to open his cash register. It was Taylor's second time in prison. He'd been behind bars since 2011 for burglary and having a gun, even though he had a record. Back in 2009, he served time for auto theft. A trail of poor decisions that for this mom will never make sense. "Knowing that you are grown and you killed my son, who was 19 and you made that decision as a grown person," Dana Mielke said. Two (black) men sentenced to life for 2009 robbery and killing (of a White man) in Sherman Oaks  Two men were sentenced Friday to life in prison without the possibility of parole for killing a man during a planned robbery in 2009. Daryl Anthony Sconiers Jr., 32, and Kenyon Aikens, 31, were convicted in January 2014 of first-degree murder for killing 31-year-old Brian Caufield. The two men were also found guilty of attempted robbery and burglary. Deputy Dist. Atty. Philip Marshall and others said Sconiers and Aikens had targeted Caufield because he sold marijuana. Witnesses testified that the two men visited Caufield’s Sherman Oaks apartment several days before the killing. On May 26, 2009, Sconiers and Aikens posed as police officers and went to the apartment, Marshall said. During the robbery, the men attempted to put handcuffs on Caufield, according to evidence presented in court. It is unclear which man fired the fatal shots, the prosecutor said. - (Black-on-white) |

R.C. Curtis is suspected of robbing and killing Paula Boyd, 75, on Oct. 21, 2015. He was arrested without incident by members of the U.S. Marshals Service Lone Star Fugitive Task Force. Credit cards belonging to Boyd led them to arrest Curtis, believed to be her grandson-in-law, on credit or debit card abuse charges on Nov. 6. The Bexar County Medical Examiner ruled shortly after Boyd’s death that she died as a result of blunt force trauma and strangulation. (White) University Park Mother Recalls Gas Station Robbery - a black female held a knife to her 7-year-old son's throat   DALLAS – University Park Police have issued a warrant for Brittany Giles, 26, accusing her of holding a knife to a 7-year-old boy’s throat. The boy’s mother, Emily Smith, says she stopped at the Snider Plaza Shell station January 29 to fill up when her path crossed with Giles. She was sitting in the car with her children, when she heard the pump click and got out to return the nozzle. “The gas station attendant started yelling, ‘Hey! Hey!’ ” Smith remembers. “Then I hear someone scream, ‘You’re getting robbed!’ ” Smith spotted her 4-year-old daughter safe in the back seat, and ran to the passenger seat where she’d left 7 year old son had been playing with the radio. “The only thing I saw was him shaking,” she says. “All he could say was ‘Knife. Knife. Knife at my throat. I’m sorry mommy. I’m so sorry. She took your purse. I didn’t know what else to do.’ ” Smith says the woman had opened the passenger door and ordered her son to hand over her purse. He sat perfectly still, though, prompting her to lean across him to grab it herself. When the woman heard the attendant’s screams, she turned, pushing the knife against the boy’s throat. “That’s when he said the knife started going in. He had a tiny little indention. Not cut, not physically harmed, but just a tiny little indention in his precious 7 year old neck,” says Smith. Police say Giles is a criminal known for changing her name and appearance. Surveillance cameras show her at Northpark mall, where police say she charged more than $13,000 to Smith’s stolen credit card. Police have arrested the suspected get away driver, Tiffany James, but Smith wants to see Giles put away too. “I want her to be behind bars. I want her to be held accountable for her actions. Especially old folks like us,” said 94-year-old victim John Burt, who served in the Air Force during World War II. Burt says that he’s grateful to see police get their man. Video showed the suspected thief using a coat over his arm to disguise his crimes — picking the pocket of distracted elderly shoppers at supermarkets. Derrick Hope, 56, was charged with robbing Burt and four other victims in Surfside and Coral Gables. Police said Burt’s credit card was used to charge more than $6,000 worth of items at a department store. “It took a lot out of me. What this guy did to me, he was able to get my wallet out of my pocket. I didn’t know how it happened, it happened so quick,” Burt recalled. Elaine Killeen was one of three victims in Surfside. “When I reached the counter I found I had no wallet. I was devastated,” she remembered as she attempted to pay for her groceries. (Black) Man convicted of second-degree murder in 2014 Arden Arcade shooting (of a White man)  A man accused of shooting another man following an argument over a bicycle has been convicted of second-degree murder. A Sacramento County jury on Thursday also found Jerome Bernard Butler, 38, guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm in the death of Carl Talent, 45, of Roseville, according to a Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office news release. On Sept. 5, 2014, Talent was in front of Butler’s residence when he got into an argument with Butler’s girlfriend and her son over a bicycle. After Talent left the area, Butler’s girlfriend told Butler that Talent had threatened her son during the argument. About 15 minutes later, Butler left his residence and saw Talent about a mile away, in the parking lot of an apartment complex. The two men began arguing, and Butler pulled out a handgun and shot Talent twice, killing him. Because Butler has two previous convictions under California’s “three-strikes” law, he faces a potential sentence of 86 years to life in prison. - (Black-on-white) |

According to police, the assault happened late Friday night on South Tryon near the Courtyard Marriott. The victim spoke with WBTV, but asked to remain anonymous since he is now fearing for his safety. "I didn't think they were going to do anything. They were just running their mouths," he said about his alleged attackers. But what appeared to be all talk quickly detoured into what the victim call's his swift attack. "As soon as he came around the corner, he hit me in the eye and split my eyebrow open," he said. The man was working construction when he says four teenagers jumped him, busting his lip and eyebrow, and even pulling out a knife. "I'm fighting two and one is trying to stab me the whole time and he turns out to be a minor," he said. It didn't take long for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police to arrest the suspects. Dominique Rowell, 18, Jamar Williams, 16, and Nemiah Mcinnis, 15, are all charged with assault and battery, among other things. The victim believes the root of his attack was his race. "When I was sitting in that lobby, they didn't say anything to any African-American or black or however you want to put it. But as soon as any white person went through, they had something to say to them," he said. The victim is concerned about the low bails set by the judge. He fears for his safety. (Black) Suspect Charged With Killing (White) Neighbor Working Out At Luxury Gym  CHICAGO — A wheelchair-bound man has been charged with fatally shooting a neighbor at a gym in the luxury apartment building where they lived. Reggie Daniel, 48, has been charged with one count of first-degree murder, a day after he turned himself in for shooting 45-year-old Darrin Joss, who was running on an elliptical machine inside a gym at 555 W. Kinzie St. around 7 p.m. Wednesday. Both Daniel and Joss lived in the building in the Fulton River District neighborhood. Daniel was ordered held on $1 million bail Friday afternoon. Police said Daniel shot Joss in the head and chest after the two had “a verbal altercation.” Joss was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital after the shooting, and was pronounced dead. Witnesses said Daniel was involved in a heated argument with Joss earlier in the evening. “I heard that it was a dispute about a girlfriend,” Matt Budreau said. “I overheard a man kind of getting mad at another man for flirting with his girlfriend,” Gina Genero said. - (Black-on-white) |

(Black) Jacoby Maize convicted of 2011 murder of (White) Old Jefferson man - shot in the stomach and left to die in burning home  A Kenner man was convicted Friday (March 4) of second-degree murder in the death of an acquaintance whose body was found in his burning home in April 2011. Jacoby Maize, 38, also was found guilty of aggravated arson, aggravated second-degree battery, witness intimidation and aggravated assault with a firearm, according to Jefferson Parish District Attorney Paul Connick Jr.'s office. Maize faced a mandatory life sentence for the murder conviction. He was accused of shooting Justin Hendricks Jr., 34, and later setting Hendricks' Old Jefferson home ablaze to cover up the crime. Before the shooting, Hendricks had anonymously reported in a 911 call that Maize had pistol-whipped his wife. Prosecutors said that within two hours of that call, Maize went to Hendricks' Maine Street home on April 25, 2011, and fatally shot him. 250-Pound Black Man Chokes 91-Year-Old (White) Woman in Park Slope Robbery, NYPD Says  NEW YORK — A 91-year-old woman was in horror Thursday, a day after she was put in a chokehold in an armed robbery in Brooklyn. Elizabeth Gioino was tackled from behind by an armed 250-pound man as she was entering a brownstone on 9th Street in the Park Slope section of Brooklyn at around 1 p.m. Wednesday, police said. She was coming home from the library at the time of the attack, police said. “He came inside. He choked me – ‘Shut up, shut up and give me your money!’” Gioino said. “I said. ‘Please leave me alone! Leave me alone!’” Gioino said. “He choked me three times, ‘Give me the money, give me the money!’ I don’t have any money.” A neighbor tried to intervene, but the suspect pointed the gun at him and robbed him too. According to police, 21-year-old Jermaine Young and 14-year-old Reginald Lofton, both of Lawrenceville, are charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, and armed robbery for the murder of Shane Varnadore, 28. Lofton will be charged as an adult. Varnadore was killed late Tuesday. Investigators say Varnadore was set up. When he arrived at the apartment complex to deliver the pizza, he was robbed by the suspects. Warrants show he was then shot once. Gwinnett police Cpl. Grant Gray enlisted in the Marines in 2011 and served seven months in Afghanistan last year. He came here to Columbus Friday. But he says rather than finding support, he was the recipient of hate. "I don't remember too much because I have a pretty severe concussion," Gray said. Gray went to the Pint House in the Short North Friday night with his high school friend. He stepped outside to make a call when he said he was approached and beaten unconscious. Gray said he remembered waking up at Grant Medical Center with the concussion and broken nose. He went to the officer, stated he was a former Marine and said he was punched by three black men who kept referring to him as "white." The attackers took none of Gray's belongings. "I even had an Apple watch on and they didn't steal that," Gray said. (White) Bicyclist Attacked After Calling Out (black) SUV Driver For Being In Bike Lane  CHICAGO — A bicyclist has a story to tell after he was attacked by a driver after some words were exchanged. The attack was captured on the biker’s helmet cam. It was a typical bike ride down Madison Street for 19-year-old Colton, a ride that turned dangerous when he called out the driver in a white SUV for being in the bike lane. Colton says he told the driver, “You’re in the bike lane bro.” “I said it really quietly, I didn’t think they’d hear me,” he said. It turns out they did. GoPro video taken from Colton’s helmet shows the driver chasing him for about a block and you can hear Colton yelling back. “I realized he wasn’t messing around so then I stopped in the middle of traffic and he got out of his car,” Colton said. He got out and attacked Colton, punching him and kicking him in the face. “I didn’t know when he was going to stop,” Colton said. “I didn’t know if he was ever going to stop kicking me.” The driver got away and Colton was left with a bloody eye. “I was obviously upset he was trying to run me off the road with his vehicle when I’m on a bike but just the fact that he still assaulted me over a few words, it’s not right.” - (Black-on-white) |
2 (black) robbers sentenced to 60 years in deadly shootout at popular St. Louis police hangout - that left White woman dead   ST. LOUIS • Two men who stormed into a St. Louis bar in 2014 and triggered a deadly shootout were sentenced Tuesday morning to 60 years in prison. St. Louis Circuit Judge Elizabeth Hogan followed terms of a plea agreement by sentencing Derreaun Davis, 21, and Corey Wade, 30, both of St. Louis, to two consecutive life sentences — or up to 60 years in prison — with the possibility of parole. Davis and Wade pleaded guilty Monday to second-degree murder and 31 other counts of assault, attempted robbery and armed criminal action stemming from a robbery attempt that turned into a shootout at Pooh’s Corner. The watering hole is popular with St. Louis police officers. Police said that Davis, Wade and another man entered the bar about 10:55 p.m. on Dec. 2, 2014, ordering people to the floor. One of the robbers fired a shot into the ceiling. A retired St. Louis officer who was having a drink at the bar shot and wounded Davis and Wade. A third suspect was later arrested but never charged in the crime. During the gunfire, authorities say one of the three robbers shot bar patron Diana Lawrence, 63, in the back of the head. Lawrence, of St. Louis, died the next day. Three other people in the bar, including the retired officer, were injured in the shootout. - (Black-on-white) |

Police already have charged Charleston Wells, 16, and Ahmad Johnson, 17, both of whom are also charged with crimes in Fultondale and Pelham. Investigators have said all of the suspects are members of a Bessemer-area gang called M-tre, which stands for Money Making Mafia. Though they claim to be aspiring rappers, police say they are street criminals who break into cars and commit other crimes to get money. They often post pictures of themselves on Facebook and other social media sites holding guns and money.
