Rape Suspects Gracia and Munoz Charges On Hold |
Porterville police said that their investigation today lead them to conduct interviews in and outside the city of Porterville. At the end of the day, however, police say they still need more information to charge the suspects in the Berkeley Officer Thwarts Rape A police officer patrolling in West Berkeley last week was able to intercede in and stop a rape in progress. The suspect, 32-year-old King Gilliand of Oakland, was arraigned after being arrested on charges of rape. Officer Katie Smith was patrolling in her car at 3:45 p.m. when she spotted Gilliand and a woman in her 40s on Addison Avenue near the railroad tracks engaged in a sexual act, said Berkeley police Officer Spencer Fomby. As she approached the individuals, Smith realized the woman was asking for help, Fomby said. Smith then drew her weapon and Gilliand fled the scene, he said. Gilliland ran east for a few minutes, jumping neighborhood fences, before he was apprehended by a group of police officers in the parking lot of Grocery Outlet at 4:42 p.m., Fomby said. - (crime) - (Norcal) |

SAN FRANCISCO, California (AP) -- A woman accused of killing her three young sons by tossing them into the San Francisco Bay has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity and believes her children are growing up in heaven, according to psychiatric evaluations. Lashuan (aka Lashaun) Harris, 23, who suffers from paranoid schizophrenia, pleaded not guilty to three counts of murder Wednesday in San Francisco Superior Court. She now must be evaluated by two court-appointed mental health professionals. - (Two of three black Berkeley men pleaded no contest to charges of gang rape of a 13-year-old girl  Two Berkeley men who pleaded no contest to charges of unlawful sex with a minor are expected to be sentenced in a plea agreement. Ryan Garvey, 24, and Lawrence Hardin, 30, will likely be sentenced to one year in county jail and five years probation for the statutory rape of a 13-year-old girl near West Berkeley last year. Police arrested Garvey and Hardin last Sept. 13 near West Berkeley on suspicion of rape and lewd conduct with a minor after a passerby reported a young girl calling for help from a residence on Allston Way near Spaulding Avenue. Police are asking the public’s help in locating any other victims of a man they’ve arrested for the April 11 rape of a woman in North Berkeley. Demon-posessed black woman Lashaun Harris claims "God Said to Kill Sons" An Oakland woman who allegedly threw her three young sons to their deaths in the San Francisco Bay last October thought she heard the "voice of God" telling her to sacrifice her children, the woman's attorney said Tuesday at a preliminary hearing. Lashaun Harris is charged with three counts of murder, but attorney Teresa Caffese told the court that Harris, 23, was mentally ill on Oct. 19 when she threw the boys into the water at Pier 7. The body of Taronta Ray Greely Jr., 2, was later recovered. The bodies of 16-month-old Joshua Greely and Trayshaun Harris, 6, have never been found. - (crime) - (Norcal) |

Black inmate releases female hostage after 10-hour standoff SACRAMENTO - A hostage situation that started Saturday morning at California State Prison, Sacramento ended peacefully 10 hours later with an inmate releasing a guard.
Authorities said Michael David Watson, 41, used a homemade knife to take guard Sheila Mitchell hostage at 7:10 a.m. in a prison dining hall.
The incident prompted a lockdown of the 3,200-inmate prison and a handful of other California prisons.
Prison spokeswoman Lt. Joyce McClendon said Watson released Mitchell unharmed at about 5 p.m. She declined to say why Watson gave up or what spurred him to take Mitchell hostage in the first place. - (crime) - (Norcal) |
Rape charges dropped against Filipino migrant priest Randy Benas At the time of his arrest, police said his accuser was a 29-year-old Oregon woman who had contacted him a year ago looking for spiritual guidance. A native of the Philippines, where he was ordained in 1985, Benas moved to the Bay Area in 1993, when he began to serve the Diocese of San Jose. Cleveland's Newest Hire Offered Police Decoy $10 For Oral Sex CLEVELAND -- The city's new chief of regional economic development resigned from a previous job over a charge of soliciting a prostitute. The newly named chief is holding pretty seedy baggage as he comes to Cleveland.. Michael J. Montgomery was sworn in Tuesday as Cleveland's chief of regional development. Less than 24 hours afterward, Mayor Frank Jackson learned he'd been charged with soliciting a prostitute. The arrest happened in 1999 while Montgomery was director of economic development in Oakland, Calif. He agreed to pay a woman $10 for a sex act, but the woman turned out to be a police decoy. Member of notorious Nut Cases gang found guilty OAKLAND, CA -- The man police called one of the most violent members of the gang behind a crime spree that killed five people was found guilty today of four murders and could face the death penalty.
An Alameda County jury convicted Demarcus Ralls, 21, on three counts of first-degree murder and one count of second-degree murder. Jurors also found him guilty of two counts of attempted murder and more than a dozen counts of robbery and attempted robbery.
Ralls is the first of six members of the Nut Cases gang -- some of whom sport tattoos of the Planters "Mr. Peanut" logo -- to go on trial in connection with the crime spree, which included five killings and 23 robberies over 10 weeks and ended with their arrests in January 2003. Two Arrested, Three More Sought For Vietnamese Gang Rape  Sacramento Police are looking for three additional suspects in connection with a gang rape of a 19-year-old woman that lasted over 12 hours in a Tahoe Park apartment.
Two parolees, who may be related, have already been arrested on suspicion multiple rape charges.
Four men repeatedly raped the woman as a 15-year-old boy looked on. The attacks began at about 11: 30 p.m., lasting throughout the night and through the next morning. "Every known felony sexual assault was perpetrated," Buckley said.
An hour after being released, the woman called police and the next day, police arrested Sarn Saechao, 25, also known as "Little Player" and "Mr. Boombastic," and Chiem Saechao, 21. (pictured)
On Feb. 22, both men were arraigned on three counts of sodomy in concert with force, five counts of rape in concert, and one count of oral copulation with force. Chiem Saechao was also charged with three counts of rape by means of violence, duress, menace or fear.
Both are ineligible for bail. Detectives are looking for three other suspects. - Toua Vang, 24, is described as 5-feet-2, 120 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. The name "Vang" is tattooed on his right breast. - Yoa Saechao, 20, is described as 5-feet-6, 130 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. police report a stranger sexually assaulted a pregnant woman in her apartment.
He knocked on her door and asked for directions. When she gave them he
left but returned and asked to use the phone but when she tried to close
the door he forced his way inside and sexually assaulted her. She
started screaming and told him she was pregnant. The woman needed stitches.
He is dark skinned with a 1-inch ponytail and was frizzy on the
