The Retrial of a (Black) Texas Corpse-raper Imprisoned Despite an Overturned Conviction
Jerry Hartfield, 59, has been in prison since 1977 even though his original murder conviction was overturned in 1980. A Texas jury found him guilty of the crime for a second time. In 1977, a jury convicted Hartfield, who is black, of the 1976 rape and murder of Eunice Lowe, a white 55-year-old bus-station ticket agent in Bay City, Texas. Three years later, Texas’s highest criminal appeals court overturned the conviction, citing jury selection issues, and ordered a retrial—an order the prosecution fought for years. Before that retrial began, however, then-Texas Governor Mark White commuted Hartfield’s death sentence to life imprisonment in 1983. There was only one catch: Because Hartfield’s original conviction had been vacated, he legally had no death sentence for the governor to commute. But since no one realized this at the time, or for decades afterward, Hartfield stayed in prison and served the commuted life sentence without retrial. Hartfield, who reportedly has an IQ of 51, did not realize he was serving a life sentence. - (Black-on-white) |

Daughter of White woman raped and murdered by black says mother was ‘an educated woman’
The daughter of a 49-year-old woman stabbed to death last week in downtown Hilo said her mother was “an educated woman,” and media denoscriptions of her as a homeless person do her life and memory a disservice. Chloe Caron said her mother, Danielle Caron, originally was from Pacific Palisades, an affluent Los Angeles neighborhood, but spent almost two decades in Santa Cruz., Calif., before moving to the Big Island a couple of years ago. “She graduated from college with a master’s (degree) in teaching,” Chloe Caron said. “She’s talented. She’s artistic; she can draw. She has a genius IQ. She’s a loving woman with an addiction problem. She moved to the Big Island. I lived on Kauai for five years. I moved her out there myself to give her a new opportunity to change for the better. When I moved her out to Hawaii, I was with her for about a month, so I know that she was sober. For a while, she was working on an organic farm and she was trying to pretty much survive.” Chloe Caron said she last talked to her mother about a month ago. “When I read the news, it breaks my heart to read ‘homeless woman murdered.’ That’s not who she was,” Chloe Caron said. “She had a lot to give people. She was kind. She wasn’t a homeless addict who robbed people or anything like that.” Curtis Hodges, a 35-year-old man from Shiloh, Ill., was arrested Friday at the Hilo Bay Hostel and charged with Danielle Caron’s murder. Surveillance video of the area led to his arrest, police said. - (Black-on-white) |

(White) Man shot, wife flees with baby as (4 black) gunmen storm home
ATLANTA -- Residents of Atlanta's Riverside community filled a community meeting Tuesday looking for answers from police, two days after one of their neighbors -- Michael Lash -- was shot, and his wife shot at by intruders. The gunmen shot and wounded Lash as he fought to keep them out of his home Sunday night, Atlanta police said. His wife Whitney and baby daughter escaped but not before they were shot at twice. Lash, his wife Whitney, their 2-year-old son and infant daughter had just returned to their home on Sumter Street from a vacation when four men knocked on their front door. "They pretended as if their vehicle had broken down and they were requesting a car jack of some sort from our victim at which point they brandished a weapon," said Ofc. Ralph Woolfolk. The men asked Lash to borrow a car jack and then tried to force their way inside. As Lash tried to close the door, the men shot him and entered the house. Lash was shot twice in the leg, one of the shots shattered his femur. The couple's 2-year-old son was sleeping in an upstairs bedroom. Lash's wife grabbed their infant daughter and ran to the back of the house. Police said the suspects fired twice at her and the baby, but missed. She then managed to run to a neighbor's home. Michael Lash was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition. According to a GoFundMe page created to raise money for medical costs, Lash suffered a shattered femur after being shot in both legs. - (Black-on-white) |

Police said an existing warrant was out for Smith because he failed to appear in court on a Brookhaven car break-in charge.

(White) Mom, 2 Children Recovering After Stolen Vehicle In High-Speed Chase Crashes Into Their Car
PITTSBURGH — Two children continue to recover from serious injuries after the car that their mother was driving was struck by a vehicle in a high-speed police pursuit on Route 51. “It’s a miracle that they are alive,” said Cindy West, of North Versailles. It was late Monday night when the car her daughter was driving was struck by a speeding, stolen vehicle being chased by Stowe Township Police. West’s daughter, Heather Bach, had two of her children in the car with her at the time. They were going to the airport to pick up a foreign exchange student from China. West told KDKA-TV’s Ralph Iannotti, “If it had been another foot or two my daughter and the children would have all been killed by the car that hit them. He was going superfast.” Police said the car, reported stolen from Dormont last week and being operated by 19-year-old Raymon Brown was going nearly 100 miles an hour when it slammed into Bach’s Toyota at a Route 51 intersection. Brown was taken to Allegheny General Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. According to a criminal complaint, he told a nurse there, “I smoked weed and took ‘percs’ before the crash.” West says her granddaughter, 11-year-old Amelia was most seriously hurt. She’s now in critical condition after major surgery. She was riding in the front seat of the car with her mother. West’s grandson, Noah, “is stable with somewhat serious injuries, but not as bad as his sister.” Friends and family have set up a GoFundMe page for the Bach family, to raise money to help pay for their medical expenses. (Black) Judge finds (black) Taylor men guilty of misdemeanor assault in gas station beating (of White man)
A Wayne County judge found two Taylor men guilty of misdemeanor aggravated assault Tuesday in a gas station beating that left a Lincoln Park man hospitalized for a month. Wayne County Circuit Judge Shannon Walker rejected felony charges of assault with intent to murder and assault with intent to commit great bodily harm against Anthony Clark, 23, and his brother, Deangelo Clark, 22. Walker heard testimony on several days over the past two months, as the Clarks waived their right to a jury trial. Walker said she looked at the credibility of all the witnesses and considered the Clarks’ intent when they punched and kicked Ryan Nasarzewski, 29, of Lincoln Park, at the BP gas station at Telegraph and Wick roads in Taylor She said she believed the Clarks when they testified that they felt threatened by Nasarzewski. They testified that Nasarzewski called them a racial epithet and raised his arms in a threatening way.
Police say witnesses told them that two men were talking amongst themselves about selling drugs in the area and Nasarzewski allegedly said, “We don’t do that around here.” Witnesses said the two men got him down on the floor and kicked him in the head. Walker noted that not all witnesses who gave a statement to police testified at the trial.
Nasarzewski testified last fall in District Court in Taylor that he had vision, hearing and memory problems as a result of the beating, as well as a number of broken bones in his skull and several broken ribs. Family members said that for the first two weeks after the incident, they didn’t know if Nasarzewski would live. - (Black-on-white) |

(White) Corinth police officer shot with his own gun by black male
CORINTH, MS – Law enforcement officials across Northeast Mississippi are searching for the suspect who shot a Corinth Police officer early Wednesday morning. “We’ve got an army of people up here looking for the suspect,” said Corinth Police Chief Ralph Dance. “In addition to us and the Alcorn County Sheriff’s Office, we have the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Marshals Service. “The officer is OK and in the hospital in Tupelo. He was shot in the chest, and the vest protected him. The second shot was in the shoulders. The doctors don’t think it hit any bones, and he should recover fine.” According to Dance, officer Kevin Parker Jr. and other officers responded to a prowler call around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday on Bell School Road. The officers did not find anyone in the area at that time. “The lady who called in the prowler report is blind, so Parker, being the good officer he is, went back around 4:40 a.m. just to make sure nobody was trying to get in her house,” Dance said. The officer spotted a 5-foot-9 black male weighing around 250 pounds wearing dark clothes and carrying a backpack. “The officer ‘blue lighted’ the suspect,” Dance said. “Parker stopped, got out and asked the man what he was doing. “At that point, the guy turned and ran at the officer. The officer had his gun out and in his hand. They struggled, and the suspect turned the officer’s hand and pulled the trigger twice. The officer never lost his weapon.” After the shots were fired, the suspect fled and the officer called for assistance by radio. Parker was flown by helicopter to Tupelo where he is listed in stable condition at North Mississippi Medical Center. - (Black-on-white) |

(Promiscuous miscegenous black) Murder suspect's (white) ex-girlfriends testify
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- On the fourth day in court for Norman Clark, the jury heard from several of Clark's ex-girlfriends. Clark is accused of killing his estranged girlfriend, Brittany Eldridge and her unborn son, Zeke. Eldridge was found in her Knoxville apartment, laying in a pool of blood in December 2011. DNA evidence does prove that Clark was the father of Eldridge's baby. The judge had to dismiss the jury and tell the two to behave. Tory Hurst, one of Clark's ex-girlfriends, worked with both Clark and Eldridge. She admitted she was having a sexual relationship with Clark during Eldridge's pregnancy. She said Clark accused Eldridge of saying bad things about him, claiming the child was his and ruining his life. Hurst said Clark denied the child was his. She said Eldridge compared her relationship with Clark similar to the one in the movie "Knocked Up." One woman dated Clark on and off for nine years. The only child she says she knew about was a daughter Clark had a few years ago. She said she didn't have a completely exclusive relationship with Clark. - (Black-on-white) |

(Black) Man arrested in 2005 Phoenix saloon murder (of White man)
A man was arrested Wednesday in a murder that occurred a decade ago, authorities say. The man, Jerrold Micah Burnett, 39, was arrested on one count of armed robbery and one count of first-degree murder stemming from an incident that occurred July 1, 2005, court documents say. Police say Burnett shot 29-year-old Chad Cassidy outside Wild Bill's Saloon in Phoenix. Cassidy and a friend, identified as Henry Hiter, were leaving the saloon when they were approached by two armed men. After the armed men demanded money, Cassidy was shot, but Hiter was able to get away, police say. When police arrived on scene, they found Cassidy dead in the parking lot. He suffered a gunshot wound to the head. Police say they found DNA on a cigarette butt at the scene and matched the DNA to Burnett. Police say the DNA was also connected to a July 25, 2005, robbery and murder case out of Mesa, in which a man was found dead of a gunshot wound in a motel parking lot. Burnett served 3.5 years in prison for a 2006 aggravated assault and 1.5 years in a 2001 drug case, court documents say. - (Black-on-white) |

Blind (White) woman robbed in broad daylight by cowardly black parasite predator purse-snatcher
CHARLOTTE, NC - Something many of us take for granted is the same thing that may have made Gina Walters a target when she says she was robbed in the middle of the day on a busy street. "I should be aware of my surroundings and I am most of the time, except for what I cannot see," Walters said. Walters is legally blind. Because of that, she can't drive, so she often walks to the convinience store on Craighead road in North Charlotte. But Tuesday afternoon, her stroll home from the corner store wasn't so routine when a man approached her asking for directions "I was just trying to be nice and I told him that Sugar Creek Road was that way," Walters said. But in a split second their pleasant exchange did changed. "I had a change purse that was on my wrist and he took it off of me and stole it and ran across the street," Walters said. "I started screaming and crying frantically". In broad daylight, on a busy street, Walters says she was robbed of her credit cards, multiple forms of ID and nearly 300 dollars. "He really made it hard on me by stealing what he did. The only income i get is social security because of my vision I can't work," Walters said. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers with the North Tryon division responded and are currently investigating. But looking back, Walters remembers seeing the man in line at the store just moments before his attack. "When I was opening my change purse, he probably saw the cash I had in it," Walters said. But she never expected she'd find herself a victim and wants to warn others of the danger. "I feel like he took advantage of a vulnerable young woman, that could happen to anyone," Walters said. Walters says there is surveillance video of the man inside the convience store that has been handed over to police. He's described as an African-American male in his 20's. - (Black-on-white) |

Maria Voci, an employee at Moka espresso bar who was killed in Wednesday’s multiple shooting there, was “a beautiful person” always going out of her way to help others, a neighbour remembers. Voce always seemed to be smiling, and her three sons, aged 20 to 25, “were her pride and joy.” Dozens of commenters expressed shock and sorrow at her death in both English and Italian. “Always put her family and friends first. Voci, 47, and fellow Vaughan resident Christopher De Simone, 24, were killed around 8:15 a.m. Wednesday, when a masked gunman wearing a hoodie opened fire on four people inside the coffee shop, near the busy intersection of Islington Ave. and Highway 7. Police continued Thursday to hunt for the gunman, described as a black male around 5-foot-10 to 5-foot-11, driving a dark, four-door compact car. Sheriff: (Black drug-dealing) Children's father's 'lifestyle' to blame for Holly Hill deaths
ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC - The sheriff of Orangeburg County says the father of the three children shot in a fatal Holly Hill shooting is responsible for two of their deaths because of his "lifestyle." Sheriff Leroy Ravenell announced Christopher Wright faces a total of five new charges: three counts of unlawful neglect of a child, one count of trafficking cocaine base and one count of obstruction of justice in connection with the July 15 shooting that left two of Wright's children, his fiancee and another man dead and a third child wounded. Ravenell told reporters he wished he could say he had the shooter in custody. "I can't do that today," he said. But Ravenell then minced no words in accusing Wright of being responsible for letting the murders happen. "This case is directly connected to his style of living: drug dealing," Ravenell said. "He placed his children in an environment that was dangerous. We can prove that he sold drugs from this location."
Two of Christopher Wright's children, Shamekia Sanders, 17, and Tamara-Alexia Perry, 14, were killed in the shooting. A third child, an 8-year-old was injured and remains in the hospital. Wright's "fiancee", 28-year-old Krystal Hutto and a fourth victim, 50-year-old Jerome Butler were also killed. A second man, Robert Bailey, 35, was arrested. A third man, 26-year-old Michael Deroaknel Smith, Jr. was also arrested. - (Black-on-white) |

Krystal Hutto, the 28-year-old who was found shot to death at her residence, had a life filled with tragedy. First, her only sibling died at age 7. She was 5 when a vehicle struck her brother Christopher Shane Hutto in April 1993 not far from their Holly Hill home. Just three days after Krystal turned 22, a Holly Hill vehicle accident took the life of her mother, Mary Jennings Hutto, 41, on March 24, 2010. Mary Hutto died when she lost control of her 2005 two-door Pontiac. And in March 2013, Krystal's father, 44-year-old Kenneth Cecil Hutto, also died in a vehicle accident in Holly Hill.
On May 24, the Holly Hill Police Department said Hutto rammed her vehicle into a police cruiser, injuring the officer. She pleaded guilty in September 2013 to failure to stop for a blue light involving great bodily harm. First Circuit Judge Ed Dickson sentenced her to six years, suspended to time served and one year of house arrest as well as three years of probation. She was also ordered to complete a drug-rehabilitation program in Charleston.
